Cord Wrap DIY
Keeping track of technology chargers and cords can be a constant battle. Our Friendship Bracelet Cord Wrap project will help you keep an eye on yours while brightening up your technology. Put those old school friendship bracelet skills to new use!
Materials
- Kid Made Modern On-The-Go Friendship Bracelet Kit
- Technology charging cord
- Tape
- Scissors
- Strong craft glue or hot glue gun (optional)
Instructions
Step 1 - Pick colors and secure to cord
Pick several colors of embroidery thread from the kit and cut them about an extra ½ the length of your technology cable (1½ lengths total). Tie them in a single knot at the base of the cord. You can add some extra security with a dab of glue if you wish. Then tape the charger to a work surface.
Step 2 - Start to wrap cord
For kiddos with some basic friendship bracelet making skills, wrap a few colors around the cord and the other embroidery thread to move away from the plug. Then start to wrap the cord using a basic figure 4 knot. This will make a classic “staircase” pattern as you repeat the knots.
If your child isn’t quite at the knot making stage, you can also simply help them wind one color of thread around the cord. As you change colors, the new wrap will secure the previous one.
Step 3 - Add accessories as you go
Stop along the way to add in beads from the kit! You can make a colored pattern or spell out something with the alphabet beads.
Step 4 - Secure at the end
If you get to the bottom of the embroidery thread and still have cord you’d like to cover, secure more embroidery thread on by just wrapping over it and continuing. When you are done covering the amount of cord you’d like, simply tie the embroidery thread to the cord with another knot. Again, you can add a dab of glue if you like.
